Buspar, which contains buspirone, is a non-benzodiazepinemedication for the treatment of anxiety. This anxiolytic psychoactive anti-anxiety medication provides a number of advantages over similar benzodiazepine type products. Whilst being just as effective as benzodiazepine products such as diazepam or Xanax, Buspar does not create dependency meaning it is much more suitable for long term use. It also causes less sedation thanbenzodiazepines meaning less interruption of normal day to day activity. Buspar works by stimulating serotonin production in the brain and because of this it exhibits strong anti-anxiety effects.
Buspar is one of a new generation of anti-anxiety medications that work without causing unpleasant side effects. Some people find that Buspar takes slightly longer to start working than more extreme medications such as Xanax. While this is partly true there is no doubt that Buspar exhibits potent anti-anxiety effects after 2 weeks of continual use and is a small price to pay to avoid the negative effects associated with benzodiazepine medications such as excessive sedation, short term memory loss and possible dependency.Because of its well-tolerated non-addictive action, Buspar is often preferred by people who have had a history of alcohol or drug dependence or by elderly patients who are looking for effective, predictable relief for anxiety problems.
The recommended dosage of Buspar is one 10 mg tablet taken three times per day.
Buspar is a well-tolerated medicine with no major side effects. Reported minor side effects include nausea, headache, restlessness and dry mouth although most users do not experience these problems. Serious side effects arising from the use of medicines containing buspirone are very rare. Buspar shouldn’t be taken if suffering from liver or kidney disorders or if pregnant without consulting a doctor first.
